VERNON, CT — The efforts to raise $30,000 to fund a new police dog for the Vernon Police Department have been met — and more.

The campaign kicked off a little more than a month ago — on Nov. 18 — and organizers said dozens of citizens, including the students of Maple Street School and several community organizations and business owners stepped up to support the effort.

As of Thursday, nearly $35,000 had been raised.

"The support for the Vernon Police Department has been incredible," said Lisa Moody, who led the fundraising efforts, along with longtime residents, Tim Poloski, Julie Clay, Kathy Stavens, Polly Schaefer, Martha Cain and others.

"Ours truly is a community that cares and the generous spirit of so many this holiday season will ensure that we ring in 2022 with a new furry addition to our law enforcement family," she said.
