Try the The Hockanum River Linear Park. The terrain is not very difficult and has very few obstacles which makes it suitable for all ages.
There are three trail entrances in Vernon. The trail’s main entrance starts at Naek Road and the section of trail goes for about 5 miles along the Hockanum River.

The other two entrances are Dart Hill Southwest and Dart Hill Southeast. Along the way you will encounter the river, wetlands and mostly woodlands. There is a picnic area along the way right across from Dart Hill Road. The trails offer the activities of hiking, walking, running, fishing, birding and canoeing. During the wintertime, the trail system is still open to the public for cross country skiing and snowshoeing along with hiking.
The system offers intriguing view of waterfowl.

Thise who do not go across the entire five miles, starting out at the Dart Hill Southwest entrance is a great way to do a shorter version of the trail. There is a place for park parking on Dart Hill Road right before you get to Route 83. There are a few picnic areas and rest stops along this trail.
The groups affiliated with the Hockanum River Linear Park are the Vernon Greenway Volunteers, the Town of Vernon Parks and Recreation, the Hockanum Watershed Association, and the Hockanum River Linear Park Committee.
There is no bicycling permitted. All dogs must be kept on a leash.
