Holiday Season Trash And Recycling Schedule Announced In Vernon

VERNON, CT — The holiday season is prompting changes to the trash and recycling pickup schedule in Vernon.

Here is the rundown:

The Vernon Public Works Department will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, 2023 in observance of the Christmas holiday and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 in observance of the New Year's holiday.

Trash and recycling will not be collected on those days but instead will be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023 and Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024 respectively, along with that day's regular collection.

The Transfer Station will be closed for Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023 and for New Year's on Dec. 31, 2023.

Excess refuse and recycling may be brought to the Transfer Station free of charge year-round, no punch card or permit required.

Christmas trees will be collected the first two full weeks in January, weather-permitting. In addition, the Transfer Station will be accepting Christmas trees for disposal the entire month of January with no permit or punch card required. Decorations, tinsel and plastic bags must be removed for the tress to be dropped off.
