Sixth graders and their parents were welcomed to Vernon Center Middle School with breakfast, Center Road School Students were reminded to "be the best that you can be - respectful, responsible, and reliable."

Opening day of school in Vernon finally took place after the delay of one day due to Hurricane Irene. Sixth grade students and their parents were welcomed to Vernon Center Middle School with breakfast in the cafeteria before the start of classes.

At Center Road Elementary school, Principal Jocelyn Poglitsch started  the assembly of the 520 students enrolled, at 9 am with the Pledge of Allegiance. Music Teacher  Susan Rubinstein lead the students in the singing of "She's a Grand Old Flag." Principal Poglitsch then spoke to the students about their school theme: "be the best that you can be -  respectful, responsible, and reliable." She then reminded students of the"Roadrunner Rules."

The assembly ended with the singing of the school song and students then went to their classrooms to begin their first day.
