Kitten Rescued From Sewer Pipe in Vernon
The kitten became trapped in a storm drain Friday morning.

VERNON, CT - Crews from three town departments teamed up to save a kitten from a sewer pipe in Vernon on Friday.
The call came into the police department from a resident of Ironwood Drive at about 7 a.m., Public Works Director Robert Kleinhans said. Police contacted public works officials, who mobilized a team from Vernon Animal Control and the Water Pollution to rush to the scene, he said.
The grate off a storm drain was removed at the road's cul-de-sac and the crews tried to coax the kitten into a net, said Jeff Schambach, a supervisor for the DPW.

Schambach said he finally reached intro the storm drain and was able to grab the kitten. He held it tight and a bed was prepared inside a cage by an animal control officer.
The cat was immediately adopted by a resident at the scene, Schambach said. Animal Control officials offered to take the kitten to a local veterinarian for a checkup, but the resident said she would take care of that, Schambach said.
