
Here are the highlights of the major Labor Day closings around town:
Rockville Public Library
The library will be closed on Labor Day - Monday, Sept. 3 - and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. While the library is closed, all borrowed items, except museum passes, may be returned in the book drop bin, located near the library’s side entrance.
Museum passes must be returned at the adult circulation desk. After Labor Day weekend, the library will be open again on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the library at 860-875-5892, ext. 21.

Trash and Recycling Pickups
The Vernon Public Works Department will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3, in observance of Labor Day.
Trash and recycling will not be collected on that day but instead will be collected on Tuesday, Sept. 4, along with that day’s normal trash and recycling collection.
The Transfer Station will be closed on Sunday, Sept. 2.

Municipal Offices
Town Hall will be open next week on Thursday until 7 p.m.

On Friday, town offices will close at 1 p.m. and reopen again on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Town Hall is closed on Labor Day.

Vernon Public Schools
For another academic year, school is starting on staggered dates:
The first day of school for students in Grades K through 6, and Grade 9 is Wednesday, Aug. 29.
The first day of school for students in PK, Grades 7 and 8 and grades 10 through 12 is Thursday, Aug. 30.
All students will attend classes on Friday, Aug. 31. Schools will beclosedon Labor day and all students will report to school on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
