Late-Night Fire Destroys Home In Vernon

VERNON, CT — A late-night fire ravaged a house on Liberty Street in Vernon Wednesday.

Responders were alerted to the incident at about 11 p.m. by several 911 calls.

Firefighters immediately encountered intense flames and a second alarm was struck as flames began shooting through the roof of the home, officials said.

Firefighters fought the blaze from the ground and a tower truck from the front and back yards.

After the fire was brought under control, crews remained at the scene for several hours dousing hot spots, officials said.

No injuries were reported, but the American Red Cross is assisting two displaced residents. One family member said, "Everything is destroyed."

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Vernon Fire Marshal's Office and local police.
