VERNON, CT — Republican Laura Bush, 60, is running for Vernon Town Council in Vernon.

Occupation: Retired Teacher

Family: Husband - Thomas, sons - Jonathan - 37 , Matthew -35, and Travis -31 and Grandson -Connor -2.

Experience: Currently I serve on the Vernon Town Council since 2015. I also served on the Vernon Board of Education from 2009 to 2015.

Family in government: No

The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

Covid recovery and We can move foward by supporting local businesses and encouraging recovery by keeping our students safely in school.

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

Our team has a proven record of success. Vernon is ahead of many surrounding town with keeping our taxes under control without reducing services to the community.

Accomplishments:

Over the 6 years on Vernon Town Council, I have seen remarkable improvements to Vernon/Rockville. There is a new Senior Center, Saxony Dog Park, Gene Pitney Memoral Park. Completion of Rosevelt, Hockanum, and and Talcottville Mills projects. New roads and sidewalks done all across the town. New turf field at the high school completed and new soccer fields under construction. All this plus more without raising taxes.

Other issues:

I want to continue to bring more business into our town and support the existing businesses. We need to make sure we continue to fund and support our first responders to keep our citizens safe.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

I love Vernon/Rockville. I've raised my children and now my grandson lives here. I will make sure we continue the growth in our town while making it affordable for families and our seniors.
