Leaf Collection Season Set To Begin In Vernon
The enclosed graphic shows the leaf collection scheduled by street groupings.

VERNON, CT — It's time for another leaf season in Vernon.
And the 2026 Version is set to begin — if Mother Nature cooperates — on Nov. 2.
The program divides town streets into three groups, A, B and C. Crews begin with Group A and work through the groups in sequence, taking approximately two to three weeks to complete collection in each group.

Collection schedules are weather-dependent, and rain, snow or freezing temperatures may cause delays. Residents can check the town's street listings shown below to determine which group includes their streets.
Town officials remind residents not to rake leaves into the street or onto sidewalks. Doing so creates safety and flooding hazards and violates town ordinance No. 235, Section 7-20. Violators may face a $100 fine.

If time and weather allow, streets could get a second pass.
Additional Leaf Disposal Sites
Vernon offers leaf collection bins in addition to curbside pickup, which are typically open in late October at three locations:
- Nye Street Firehouse, off West Street
- Church Street parking lot
- Legion Field, off Regan Road at the rear of the parking lot
Residents must deposit leaves in designated areas. The bins are for leaves only; grass clippings, branches and brush are prohibited. Contamination from other yard waste could result in the closure of a leaf bin.
Residents should remove any containers used to transport leaves. Plastic bags may be placed in the trash barrel, while lawn-sized paper bags are recyclable and do not need to be emptied.
After the town completes its leaf collection program, two of the three bins will close. The Nye Street Firehouse location will remain open year-round.
Bagged Leaf Pickup
Bagged leaves cannot be placed out for collection with regular household trash. The town may offer pickup of bagged leaves on the first two Fridays in December.
Residents must schedule the service through the Public Works Office by calling 860-870-3500. Only biodegradable paper bags will be collected.
Residents are encouraged to follow the town's guidelines to help keep streets and sidewalks safe and ensure the leaf collection program operates efficiently.
