Light Violation Leads to Gun Arrest in Vernon

A traffic stop in Vernon uncovered an illegal firearm, police said.

VERNON, CT — A faulty light over a rear registration plate led to the discovery of an unlicensed handgun in a vehicle, police said.

At 2:47 a.m. on Thursday, a Vernon police patrol officer noticed the burnt-out light on a white Honda Accord and pulled the vehicle over, according to a report. The front seat passenger, identified as 23-year-old Roberto Marcos Carrasco, of Hartford, said he had a gun in a pocket, according to a report.

He did not have a valid pistol permit, according to a report.

Carrasco was also in possession of four Percocet pills in a clear plastic bag, police said.

He was charged with carrying a weapon without a permit, illegally possessing a weapon in a motor vehicle, illegally carrying a firearm under the influence of drugs or alcohol and possessing a controlled substance, a report indicates.
