Local Resident Dies In Vernon House Fire

A Vernon man died Sunday night in a raging house fire, police said.

VERNON, CT — A local resident perished in a Sunday night fire on Hany Lane in Vernon.

The fire broke out at 144 Hany Lane at 11:20 p.m. By Monday morning, the smell of smoke was still prevalent in the area. The garage of the home was in ruins and a melted car sat in the driveway.

A resident described by Vernon police as a man in his 60s died in the fire, authorities said.

State and local fire marshals were at the scene investigating. Detectives could be seen sifting through the rubble inside the garage.

An official cause of the fire and the victim's identity had not been released as of late Monday morning.
