Loud Car Leads to Drug Charge in Vernon

Two were arrested after a short chase in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — A loud car led to two people facing respective drug and traffic charges in Vernon, police said.

At 1:11 a.m. on Dec. 30, an officer on patrol on Nye Street attempted to stop a silver Ford Focus for excessive noise, according to an arrest report.

Once the officer turned on his emergency lights, the car sped off and was located moments later after a long set of skid marks in the driveway of 46 Spring St. but the driver had left the car, according to an arrest report.

Both the driver, 22-year-old Gilberto Cordero, of 50 Spring St., Vernon, and the passenger, Deonna Doucette, of 121 East Main St., Vernon, were apprehended a short time later.

Doucette had a backpack with 21 grams of marijuana in it, packaged for sale, according to an arrest report. She was charged with the sale of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, operating a drug factory and the use of drug paraphernalia, according to an arrest report.

Cordero was charged with operating a vehicle and causing unnecessary noise, traveling unreasonably fast, operating under suspension, interfering and engaging police in a pursuit, according to an arrest report.
