Man Accused of Fudging Court Bond Refund Checks
A man is facing a first-degree forgery charge for fake superior court bond refund checks, state police said.

VERNON, CT — A 32-year-old New Britain man is facing a first-degree forgery charge for allegedly fudging superior court bond refund checks, state police said.
Michael Cruz was arrested on a warrant Saturday based on an investigation out of Rockville Superior Court and the state police Troop C barracks. He has also been charged with second-degree larceny and criminal attempt at both first-degree forgery and second-degree larceny, state police said. He was held over the weekend on a $50,000 bond and was to appear in court Monday.
According to a warrant, the case dates back to 2016.

The forged checks were drawn out of the Rockville Superior Court Trustee Account, according to a warrant. The numbers had a abnormal sequence and the signatures were slightly off, according to a warrant.
Cruz tried to cash the fake checks are various locations throughout the area, including check cashing outlets, according to a warrant.
