Man Charged in 2 Sexual Assault-Related Cases in Vernon
A man has been charged in sexual assault-related cases involving women in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — A Coventry man has been charged in two separate sexual assault-related cases during which he was allegedly inappropriate with two women as they slept in Vernon, warrants state.
Chanquil Barnes, 28, posted separate $5,000 bonds for the cases and is due in court in July 24, according to judicial system records.
He was arrested Monday on two warrants.

The first was for an incident on April 21. According to a warrant, a woman told police Barnes was a friend of her roommate and let himself into their apartment.
She told police she went to sleep, but woke up to Barnes "rubbing her bare leg in a sexual manner," according to a warrant. She then told Barnes to leave but he began flirting, according to a warrant.

The woman told police she grabbed her phone and Barnes left, according to a warrant.
Barnes was charged with attempted fourth-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct for the incident, according to a warrant.
She then told police she believed Barnes had done something similar to another woman and an investigation into a Feb. 2 incident began.
That night, Barnes was "hanging out" with three women at Lucky's strip club in Vernon and, after the place closed, went to the home of one woman, according to a warrant.
A woman told police she was sleeping, but woke up after feeling someone taking her pants off. Barnes was half on the bed and touched her inappropriately with his mouth and hand, according to a warrant. He would not allow the woman to pull her pants back up and left the room only after he heard someone beeping a horn outside because his vehicle was blocking the driveway, according to a warrant.
For that incident, Barnes was charged with attempted second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree sexual assault, according to a warrant.
