Man Charged After Spittting on Vernon Officer, Scuffling With Others: Report

VERNON, CT — A Hartford man spat on officer and had a scuffle with several others after he was pulled over for suspected drunken driving early Monday morning, an arrest report indicates.
Kerrie Benton, 33, of Garfield Street, Hartford, was pulled over on Talcottville Road near Pleasant View Drive at 1 a.m. on Sunday, according to an arrest report. He was observed crossing the center line, according to an arrest report.
He initially provided officers with a false ID and failed a field sobriety test, according to an arrest report.

He then went in a tirade and wrestled with officer and spat on another, according to an arrest report.
He also made threats to police while being transported, according to an arrest report.

He also failed a urine test, police said.
He was charged with:
- Assault on an officer
- Interfering
- Second-degree threatening
- Criminal impersonation
- Driving under the influence
- A lane violation
- Operating a motor vehicle without as license
He was held overnight and was to appear in court Monday, police said.
