Man Found Parked, Incoherent on I-84 in Vernon: Cops

He was parked in the left-hand lane and caused a crash, state police said.

VERNON, CT — State and local police found a man in a vehicle, parked and incoherent, in the high speed lane of Interstate-84 on Sunday and arrested him for drunken driving, according to reports.

The incident took place at 12:51 a.m. Sunday, according to reports. Joseph Rodriguez, 40, of East Harftord was charged with driving under the influence, a registration violation and improper parking and was to appear in court Monday, according to reports.

Police were alerted to Rodriguez after an oncoming car came upon him about a half-mile shy of Exit 56 in the eastbound left-hand lane and crashed into the guardrail while swerving to avoid the parked vehicle, reports indicate.

When state and local police went to the scene, he was found to be sitting in the driver's seat, smelling of alcohol and slurring his speech, reports indicate.

He had slurred speech and kept falling asleep as troopers tried to talk to him, according to reports. He was unable to stand when police took him out of the vehicle, according to reports.
