Man Found Snoozing With Drugs Gets Elderly Assault Charge: Cops

A Southington man found snoozing with drugs in a family vehicle wound up with an assault on an elderly person charge, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Southington man found snoozing with drugs in a family vehicle wound up with an assault on an elderly person charge after being confronted, police said.

At 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jason Bednarz, 27, of the Plantsville section of Southington, was arrested after an

investigation into a domestic dispute at his residence, police said.

Bednarz was taken into custody without incident and charged with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault on an elderly person, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, according to a report.

Bednarz posted a $10,000 surety bond and was given an appearance of Aug. 20 in Bristol Superior Court. Court information on his case was incomplete in the state judicial system website.

According to a report, Bednarz was involved in an argument with a 66-year-old after being located sleeping in a family vehicle with suspected crack cocaine and a glass smoking pipe.

The argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which Bednarz allegedly punched and kicked
the 66-year-old while the "victim" was on the floor. The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical
attention on scene.

The suspected crack cocaine and smoking pipe were turned over to the officers at the scene, a report states.
