Man Threatens To Shoot Police During Sunday Standoff In Vernon
No gun was found at a standoff in Vernon Sunday, but plenty of drugs were, police said.

VERNON, CT — A man claiming to have a gun staged a brief standoff with Vernon police Sunday as they responded to a domestic disturbance, according to an arrest report.
He didn't have a gun, but now has a half-dozen criminal charges to contend with, police said.
The domestic call from a Vernon Avenue address came in at 4:11 p.m., police said. According to an arrest report, 33-year-old Justin Chapman was accused of punching someone inside the dwelling, but refused to come out when police arrived, claimed he had a gun and threatened to shoot officers, according to an arrest report.

Negotiators were able to convince Chapman to come out peacefully, according to an arrest report.
While searching the home, police located no gun, but discovered cocaine and a "large amount" of packaging materials, according to an arrest report.

Chapman was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct, interfering with police, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance (first offense).
He was held overnight Sunday on a $50,000 and and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court Monday.
