Man Was on 'Device' When He Hit Pedestrian in Vernon: Report

A driver has been charged for a Vernon pedestrian accident, police said.

VERNON, CT — A Vernon man was using an electronic device when he hit a pedestrian on Route 30 over the summer and was charged on Friday for that and assault, an arrest report indicates.

Richard Duquette, 43, of Vernon, surrendered on Saturday on an active warrant. He was charged with second-degree assault, using a hand-held device while driving, reckless driving, a lane violation and failing to "exercise due care to avoid a pedestrian," an arrest report indicates.

The incident was on July 8, according to a police report.
