Man Who Robbed Vernon Pharmacy in 2013 for Painkillers Sentenced

David Haney, 53, robbed five pharmacies across the state in order to satisfy his addiction to painkillers.

A Marlborough man who robbed five pharmacies across the state last year to feed his addiction for painkillers was sentenced to five years in jail Monday.

David Haney, 53, robbed pharmacies in South Windsor, Manchester, East Hartford, Meriden and Vernon for oxycodone pills, most of which he used himself, according to the Hartford Courant. Prosecutors said he also sold some.

He pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in February to one count of interference with commerce by robbery for the South Windsor case, according to the Courant. He admitted to robbing the other stores as well as part of the plea deal.

Haney walked into a South Windsor CVS, asked for the pharmacist and then showed the pharmacist what appeared to be a gun. He made off with more than 2,000 oxycodone pills.

He robbed a Walgreens in Manchester in September 2013, a Walgreens in Meriden on Oct. 3, 2013, a CVS in East Hartford on Oct. 11, 2013 and a Walgreens in Vernon on Nov. 9, 2013.
