Manchester Woman Accused Of Ripping Off Stroke Victim In Vernon

A Manchester woman is accused of forging checks belonging to a friend, a warrant states.

VERNON, CT — A 66-year-old Manchester resident is facing 15 counts of second-degree forgery and stands accused of ripping off a 77-year-old friend while he was recovering from a stroke, police said.

Nancy Poulin was arrested via a warrant on Feb. 6 and police released the details on Friday. In addition to the forgery charges, she is facing a single count of third-degree larceny, the warrant states.

The case dates back to March, when the 77-year Vernon resident spent time in a nursing home rehabbing from a stroke, according to the warrant. Poulin, described in the warrant as a frequent visitor and friend, is accused of forging eight checks valued at $4,850.

When the 77-year-old started getting overdraft notices from his bank in May, he asked his son to investigate and the son noticed canceled checks were made out to Poulin with handwriting that was not his or his father's, according to the warrant.

Poulin has prior criminal convictions in Connecticut, including evidence tampering in 2011, sixth-degree larceny in 2008, sixth-degree larceny in 2007, sixth-degree larceny again in 2007 and sixth-degree larceny in 2006.
