Meal Not So Happy For Mass Man After Fracas At McDonald's In Vernon

VERNON, CT — A visit to a McDonald's in Vernon turned into a bag full of charges after an altercation.

At 4:30 a.m. Friday, Vernon police were dispatched to the McDonald's at 74 Reservoir Road for an assault complaint. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Springfield, MA, resident Ryan Bertrand, had fled the scene in the victim's car and blew through an attempted traffic stop by Vernon police, according to an arrest report.

Bertrand turned onto Interstate 84 westbound at Exit 67, but the vehicle became disabled and an officer saw him alongside it near the Exit 65 ramp, according to an arrest report. Bertrand ran away, was caught by an officer, but began kicking and spitting at police before being taken into custody, according to an arrest report.

Bertrand was charged with:

  • Third-degree assault
  • Third-degree assault on an elderly victim
  • Assault on a public safety officer (5 counts)
  • Second-degree breach of peace
  • Reckless driving (3 counts)
  • Disobeying a the signal of an officer
  • Interfering with police (2 counts)
  • Failure to submit to fingerprinting

He posted a $50,000 bond and was sent to Rockville General Hospital and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday, police said.
