VERNON, CT — A medical practice has moved from Ellington to Vernon to take over a long-vacant building in the Rockville section of town.

The Shifa Clinic has moved into the commercial building at 145 Union St. That's about halfway between its old location just over the Ellington line and Rockville General Hospital.

The Shifa Clinic had been operating in the plaza at 4 West Road anchored by the Al-Noor Islamic Center. The new digs on Union Street, adjacent to the Rockville branch of the U.S. Postal Service, were completed last week after a brief construction period.

Vernon Economic Development Coordinator Shaun Gately said it was a quick turnover because the site was already zones for a medical office.

The clinic has been active in the community since the coronavirus pandemic broke out and teamed up with Vernon officials to host several vaccination clinics at the mosque.
