Missing Vernon Man Now Home Safe: Police

A man who was the subject of an intensive search Thursday has returned home, police said.

VERNON, CT — A missing man who was the subject of an intensive search Thursday has returned home safe, Vernon police said Friday.

Ionel Simbutin came back to his Vernon home on his own accord later on Thursday, police said. The 54-year-old was unharmed, police said.

Vernon police were out in force Thursday in search of Simbutin. He had gone missing earlier in the day and his family was concerned for his well-being, Police said.

A Silver Alert was issued Thursday morning for Simbutin and police were in the area of South Street and in the central part of town looking for him.

The search was complicated by internet service being down in the area and many home surveillance cameras were not sending images, police said.
