Mom Has Child Play Porch Pirate In Vernon: Warrant

A woman is accused of having a child steal a package from a porch in Vernon, police said.

VERNON, CT — A warrant accuses a Vernon woman of recruiting her child to take on the role of porch pirate in her own neighborhood.

The woman surrendered to authorities on March 11 and has been charged with risk of injury to a child, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, police said.

Police initiated an investigation when they received a complaint from a Terrace Drive resident about a stolen package on Feb. 29. Investigators determined that a neighbor had used her daughter to steal a package off of a porch, a warrant states.

The package contained a video gaming control board and was later pawned at an area shop, according to a warrant.

The woman, who is 40-years-old, was caught on surveillance video both at the pawn shop and during the porch theft, according to a warrant.

The neighborhood includes some single-family homes and the Park West apartment complex.
