VERNON, CT — A new set of traffic lights is now dangling on Route 83 in Vernon. Just when it will be activated has yet to be determined, but it could be this month, officials said.

The lights hang along the 200 block of Route 83 at the new Trail Run apartment complex. That's officially 2 Trail Run on the map. The other intersecting road is Allen Drive.

Trail Run opened in the fall with 96 apartments, which represented the first phase of 312 total units, plus retail/commercial space. A traffic light system at the driveway was part of the plans.

Route 83 is classified as a state road and falls under the jurisdiction of the Connecticut Department of Transportation. DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick said there is currently no scheduled activation date.

Once a date is determined, before the signal is actually put into normal operation, it will be set in a "flash mode" for seven days "to allow the public to become acclimated to it," Nursick said.
