VERNON, CT — A small mulch fire at a Vernon bank's drive-through lanes last week was caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette, a bank executive said.

The fire broke out at about 3:10 last Thursday at the drive-through lanes at the 6 Pitkin Road United Bank branch, police said.
