VERNON, CT — The mysterious Monday night stink reported in Vernon remains a mystery.

Vernon police said they received at least one 911 call about a "horrible" smell in the area of Susan Road and Tunnel Road Monday night.

Several residents on social media said the odor resembled everything from sewage to a dead body.

On Tuesday morning, a crew from the Water Pollution Control Authority went to investigate and reported back to town officials that nothing unusual was found. WPCA officials said that, this time of year, garden and field fertilizers tend to make things smell worse than they are.
