New Route 83 Traffic Lights In Vernon To Be Activated Soon
New traffic lights on a busy stretch of road in Vernon are in the warning phase.

VERNON, CT — A new set of traffic lights on Route 83 in Vernon has entered the warning period and should be fully activated either late this week or early next week.
The lights hang along the 200 block of Route 83 at the new Trail Run apartment complex. That's officially 2 Trail Run on the map. The other intersecting road is Allen Drive.
Trail Run opened in the fall with 96 apartments, which represented the first phase of 312 total units, plus retail/commercial space. A traffic light system at the driveway was part of the plans.

Route 83 is classified as a state road and falls under the jurisdiction of the Connecticut Department of Transportation. DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick said before the signal is actually put into normal operation, it will be set in a "flash mode" for seven days "to allow the public to become acclimated to it," Nursick said. The Trail Run complex sits back from Route 83 and is designed to be what owners dubbed, "a new standard of nature inspired, environmentally-conscious living in the area.

Access to the Hockanum River trail is included in the complex. Luxuries include a private dog bath for resident pets near the swimming pool.
