No Explosive Device Found in Vernon

A construction crew had unearthed what was thought to be a blasting cap.

Vernon police said wires were found inserted into a drilled hole in some rock. No explosive device was found.

Construction workers digging on South Street near Knollwood Drive unearthed a possible blasting cap that had been buried underground late Monday morning, police said.

As a precaution, the area was immediately evacuated. The Hartford Bomb Squad has been called to evaluate the item. Vernon Fire and Police personnel are on scene.

Police have closed the road and evacuated some nearby residences as a precaution.

There is no estimate as to when the area will be re-opened.
