Amos "Doc" Kentfield, 81, of Ellington, beloved husband of 57 years to Katherine (Polansky) Kentfield, went home to his Lord on Thursday, June 14, 2012.
Amos was born on March 27, 1931, in Gouverneur, NY. He was the youngest child of John and Ada Kentfield.
Upon graduating from Gouverneur High School, Amos enlisted in the Navy and served as a medical corpsman during the Korean Conflict, earning his nickname of "Doc."
After being discharged from the Navy he graduated from Paul Smith's College. Amos then moved to Connecticut, where met his beloved wife, Kathy, on a blind date, and they were married on June 11, 1955. They moved to Rockville and raised their family of three sons, of whom Amos was especially proud.
After retiring from a long career in sales, Amos and Kathy split their time between their homes in Rockville and Ocala, FL, and moved to Ellington in 2005.
Amos was a life member of VFW Post 2083. He was a longtime member of Rockville United Methodist Church, where he served his Lord in many capacities, including lay speaker and choir member. Amos drew his strength from his faith, family and fellowship.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kathie Kentfield of Rockville, Brian and Kim Kentfield of Vernon, and daughter-in-law Jill Kentfield of Ellington. He also leaves his grandson Matthew Kentfield and his wife Amanda and their son Brady, all of Concord, NC; his granddaughter Kori Kentfield Durham and her husband Tycen of Indianapolis, IN; his grandson Jonathan Kentfield of Rockville; and his grandson Kyle Marquis of Ellington. He will be missed by his extended family. Amos was predeceased by his cherished son, Mark and his sisters, Ethel Sweet and Doris Lau. Services will be held at the Rockville United Methodist Church, 142 Grove Street, Rockville, on Saturday, June 23, 2012. His family will receive friends at 1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. Internment with military honors will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery. Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockville United Methodist Church.
