For week two of our guest bloggers, we have Jamie Patten from the VT sharing her knowledge! Oils seem to have boomed on the hair care market lately... but are they really all the same? Jamie will help you to navigate the tricky choices.....!
Moroccan oil, Argan oil and now Diamond oil? How do you decide which oil is the best for your hair type and specific needs? Well that’s what we are here for! We’ve put together some info that will help you make the tough decision.
Let’s start with Moroccan Oil. It is the first oil we were introduced to at the salon and we couldn’t get enough of it! Not only did it make every clients hair super soft and shiny with long term conditioning but it helped cut our blow dry time down. Just the tiniest amount applied to damp hair leaves it with the feeling of immediate enhanced manageability.
After using the Moroccan Oil for some time and on all types of hair we learned that it was not really best for finer hair but more for thick, coarse hair.
Luckily Moroccan Oil caught on to that and came out with a “light” version that not only caters to fine hair but also light colored hair. The reason being the oil is of a gold color that may tint women with light blonde to platinum colored hair where the “light” version is less gold and closer to clear to prevent any tinting. Moroccan Oil is a silicone based oil which means it coats the hair shaft and benefits only the outer layer. At $56 a bottle it is certainly a smart investment for your hair.
Next we have Redken’s All Soft Argan-6 oil, which again is a silicone based oil, is a multi-care oil for dry/brittle hair. The “6” in the name stands for the six different ways the versatile treatment can be used.
- Moisturize: Pre-Shampoo treatment
- Protect: Pre-Blow dry shield
- Smooth: Post Blow-dry Protector
- Illuminate: Styling Shine Booster
- Soften: Treatment Booster
- Recondition: Overnight Treatment
The Argan-6 oil can be used just like the Moroccan Oil but what I have learned over the years of use is that it is closer to the Moroccan Oil Light in similarities and does better on medium to fine hair. Still with just a dime sized amount applied to towel dried hair before blow-dry you get a softness and shine you can’t live without. At $30 a bottle and with the same results as using the Moroccan Oil we find that this is one of our top sellers.
Lastly we are introduced to the Diamond Oil line. The differences between this diamond oil and the Moroccan and Argan-6 is that the diamond oil is silicone free which means that it will penetrate one level deeper into your hairs cuticle and work from the inside out. There are two types of Diamond Oil, regular and intense. The regular is meant for medium hair types and intense is meant for coarse hair. This oil will leave your hair with shatterproof shine, 3X stronger hair, increased moisture, reduced frizz and breakage, easy detangling, increase flexibility and enhanced color radiance. At $40 a bottle and only 2-3 drops per use this is certainly an affordable way to get beautiful, healthy hair.
Once you and your stylist determine which oil is best for you (if any, and we’ll get to that in the near future!) you won’t ever want to go without it!
