VERNON, CT — A 43-year-old woman was killed on Route 83 in Vernon Thursday morning in a car versus pedestrian crash.

Her belongings that were being carried in a shopping bag were strewn on the southbound side of the road, while the car was facing south in the northbound lane. Marra said that did not necessarily mean it was a case of wrong-way driving and could indicate evasive action on the part of the driver.
Metro Traffic Services and Vernon police are investigating and the road re-opened at 9 a.m. after being closed for nearly four hours. Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact the Vernon Police Department at 860-872-9126.
