VERNON, CT — So .... how did the Hockanum River get underground in the Rockville Section of Vernon all those years ago?

The Vernon Historical Society has a picture showing the process. It's a view from Brooklyn Street looking north. Large concrete forms were linked together to channel the river underground and parking and buildings were put on top of it.

The Hockanum forms at Shenipsit Lake and flows through parts of Vernon, Ellington, Manchester and East Hartford and eventually to the Connecticut River just north of the Charter Oak Bridge.
