
VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to the top of Ecker Hill and the campus of Vernon Center Middle School Tuesday. A thick smokey haze enveloped the town.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said smoke from wildfires in Quebec was he cause. More than 160 fires are burning across Quebec, most of which are out of control, and the wildfire smoke began heading to Connecticut because of a stalled upper-level low-pressure system over Nova Scotia, according to the DEEP.
With the weather pattern, winds at all levels of the atmosphere are from the north and northwest and the winds will persist through Wednesday, according to the DEEP.
