Police Dog Snags Drug Stash After 96 MPH Traffic Stop In Vernon

VERNON, CT — A police dog discovered more than 140 bags of potent narcotics in a car after a Vernon man was caught traveling at nearly 100 mph on a local stretch of Interstate 84, state police said.

The incident took place at 6:50 p.m. on Oct. 28, according to a state police report.

A gray Volkswagen driven by 26-year-old Vernon resident Robert Price was clocked at 96 mph near exit 66 on the eastbound side of the high and was subsequently pulled over, according to an arrest report.

Troopers suspected there were narcotics in the car and police dog Drago was deployed, according to an arrest report. Drago discovered 142 bags of white powder, several Suboxone strips, a hunting knife under the driver's seat and a facsimile firearm, according to an arrest report.

The powder was determined to be a mixture of fentanyl and methamphetamine after testing.

Price was charged with:

  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to keep narcotics in an original container
  • The sale of certain illegal drugs
  • Narcotics possession
  • Illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle

He was released on a $50,000 bond and assigned a court date of Nov. 19, state police said.
