Popular Holiday Shopping Venue In Vernon Taking The 2023 Season Off

VERNON, CT — A popular option of holiday specialty shopping in north central Connecticut for the past four-plus decades will not be open this winter.

The owners of The Garden Barn in Vernon made the announcement late last month and the move will take effect just before Thanksgiving.

It's a family thing, the Glihas and Mullens said.

Here is the formal announcement:

To Our Dearest Customers, Our Family;

Regretfully, The Garden Barn will not be open for the upcoming Holiday/Christmas season.

This has been a very difficult decision for us to make. We will miss your smiles and sharing the holiday season with you.

For those of you that have not heard, Shawn and Chelsy welcomed a beautiful baby girl into our world at the end of July this year. After much consideration, our family has decided to shut down prior to the holiday season so that our family, and our very hardworking staff, can enjoy the holiday season with their families. It has been such a pleasure providing you with Holiday and Christmas items for the past 40+ years. We truly thank you for your understanding, as we will be able to enjoy the holidays with the new addition to our family.

The Garden Barn will close Wednesday, November 22, 2023 and reopen in early February 2024.

We will still be offering gift card purchases over the phone that can be mailed while we are closed for the season. If you would like to purchase any of our garden gift items for your loved ones, any in-store purchases need to be made prior to us closing for the season.
