Postal Worker Arrested for DUI While on Duty in Vernon
A postal worked was charged with DUI on Wednesday.
VERNON, CT — A postal worker was arrested for drunken driving while delivering mail in Vernon on Wednesday, police said.
The arrest took place in the Olson Drive/Valerie Drive area at about 1 p.m., police said.
The mail carrier was in the process of his deliveries when a resident called to complain about his actions, police said.

An officer was sent to the Olsen Drive area and intercepted the mail carrier on Valerie Drive, police said. An officer then interviewed the mail carrier and then developed probable cause to arrest him for DUI, police said. The mail carrier was based out of the Union Street Post Office, police said.
The postal worker was later identified as Shawn DuPerry, age 55, of 2 Carol Drive, Vernon.

Police said bottles of alcohol were found in the postal vehicle and he failed a standardized field sobriety test, police said.
Postal supervisors responded to the scene and took custody of the vehicle, police said.
He was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on February 27,police said.
