VERNON, CT — Want to own a race car, and a vintage one at that? Look no further than along the 900 block of Hartford Turnpike.

That's the address on Route 30, where Ed Johansen, the owner of Mill Street Auto in Vernon, also owns a former filling station property that he is currently renovating. On the edge of the road sits a blue race car that he is selling.

"It's a fun car and it has some history behind it," Johansen said.

The car is a 1937 Chevrolet Coupe. Nicknamed "Sweet Sue." It was once owned by the late Les Hinckley, who raced on the regional circuit at track like Riverside, Stafford and Thompson.

"Runs great," says the sign on the windshield. When asked to elaborate, Johansen said it can probably reach speeds of 100 mph.

"The car is in really good shape," he added.

Even the Hoosier racing tires still have some life in them, he said.

Johansen said the car had been owned by the family after Hinckley's passing and then was passed on to other owners before he acquired it. It's "track ready," he said.

The price tag is $10,500.
