Quick Arrest Made in Vernon Package Store Robbery

A teen with a knife held up a liquor establishment in Vernon on Monday.

VERNON, CT — Vernon police on Tuesday quickly hunted down and took into custody a teen wanted in a armed holdup at the Drive-In Package Store on Monday evening.

Keith Callahan, 19, was taken into custody at 196 Terrace Drive shortly after Judge Edward Graziani of Rockville Superior Court authorized his arrest by warrant.

The robbery took place at 5:30 p.m., at the Drive-In Package store, located at the corner of West and West main streets, police said.

Someone came into the store with a knife. What he took was not disclosed, but a clerk suffered a minor injury, police said.

The suspect then fled the store and police said they knew where he went.

Callahan was already being detained at 196 Terrace Drive. Prior to his arrest, Callahan requested to speak to detectives about his involvement. He was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Vernon Police Headquarters where he was formally charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.

He was held on a $500,000 cash/surety pending a court appearance on Tuesday, police said.
