Red Cross Sends Out Appeal for Donors

The American Red Cross has put out an appeal for donations of all blood types.

And three drives are scheduled for Vernon for September - beginning today at the Union Congregational Church, 3 Elm St.

Donors with type O negative, O positive, A negative or B negative are in particular demand, a Red Cross official said.

Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to any patient. This blood type is often used in emergency situations when doctors do not have time to check a patient’s blood type before transfusion.

A Red Cross official said anyone who gave blood at the start of summer may be eligible to donate again as summer comes to a close.

Here is the September Schedule

• Sept. 12 - Union Church, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Sept. 20 - Price Chopper 1 to 6 p.m.

• Sept. 26 - Rockville General Hospital 1 to 6 p.m.
