Report: Fight Leads Vernon Police to Apartment Strewn With Dirty Diapers, Garbage

The man living there is facing multiple charges for the fight and the trashed apartment, police said.

VERNON, CT — A fight at the fancy new apartments at a converted Rockville woolen mill resulted in child-neglect charges against a man for a trashed apartment that included several soiled diapers strewn about the residence, an arrest report indicates.

David McNamar, 30, who lives at Loom City Lofts on East Main Street in the Rockville section of Vernon, was charged with risk of injury to a child for the unkempt dwelling and third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace for the scuffle, law enforcement records indicate.

The call came in shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to police records. Several officers were dispatched to Loom City Lofts for a fight on a patio that reportedly included a bleeding, unconscious woman who had been hit over the head with a bottle.

No such woman was found, but police discovered that, earlier in the night, McNamar had walked across a waterfall behind the complex with a "juvenile" on his shoulders, according to an arrest report. The age of the child was not disclosed.

An ensuing argument led to a "victim" being pushed into a cement wall and the "victim" had "reportedly" hit her head on it, according to an arrest report. At some point, police learned that a child had been left unattended in the apartment and when they went into the dwelling to check on it, officers discovered "dirty diapers, garbage and multiple other items all over the floor," according to an arrest report.

McNamar was arrested, held in the VPD lockup overnight on a $150,000 bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court Thursday, police said.

Loom City Lofts is the circa 1906 former Roosevelt Mill complex once known for its sweaters. It was recently converted into luxury apartments. The waterfall area, once a power source for the mill, has been fully preserved.
