Rockville High School Class Of 2022 Valedictorian, Salutatorian Named
The top two students in the RHS graduating class have been formally announced.

VERNON, CT — My Kim Lai Huyen and Kaylin Maher have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Rockville High School Class of 2022.
School administrators made the formal announcement Tuesday afternoon.

My Kim Lai Huyen
My Kim Lai Huyen, the Valedictorian, is the daughter of Bang Vinh and Ha Van Nguyen. She will attend Northeastern University in the fall as a first generation college student, majoring in Health Sciences and Sociology on the Pre-Med track. She will also be participating in the Honors program.

My Kim is actively involved at the high school and in her own Vietnamese community. She is a member of the Rockville High Marching Ram Band, playing pit and bass drum. She received the Most Musical Band award and a varsity letter for her work with the band.
She is in the Allied Health program and is involved with the Youth Equity Squad, working to recognize and celebrate cultural diversity and the inclusion of students of color in the curriculum. She is a volunteer in “Khong Noi Khong Biet,” a group of Vietnamese individuals throughout North America whose mission is to provide credible news to the Vietnamese-speaking community.
Throughout her time at RHS, My Kim has been recognized for her academic achievement through the E. Stevens Henry Award, the Society of Women Engineers’ Certificate of Merit, the Harvard Book Prize, the Lucille Kuhnly Chemistry Award, among other awards.

Kaylin Maher
Kaylin Maher, the Salutatorian, is the daughter of Joseph Maher and Michele Maher. This fall, she will attend Wesleyan University to pursue a combined degree in Biology and Science in Society.
During her time at RHS, Kaylin has been actively involved in her school community. She is the Vice- President of the Class of 2022, the Secretary of the National Honor Society, a member of the Allied Health program, and serves as a Science/Math peer tutor. She participated in a women’s health and biology summer program at Brandeis University, producing a project on the ethical implications of ovarian cancer within disadvantaged communities.
She also volunteered for Medicine Encompassed, promoting awareness and creating resources for students interested in a healthcare career. Kaylin is also very involved with the RHS Creative Writing program, serving as the co-poet laureate for the Town of Vernon and as one of the chief editors of the Rockville Literary Arts Magazine. She received a Silver Medal with Distinction Award for her writing portfolio, one of only twenty-nine nationwide, from the Scholastic Art and Writing Contest.
She was also honored with a national Gold Medal for her Flash Fiction, first place in the UConn Wallace Stevens ECE Poetry Contest, and publication in the national anthology Best Teen Writing of 2022 and in the Connecticut Student Writer.
