Rockville High School Names Class Of 2023 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

VERNON, CT — The top two students for Rockville High School's Class of 2023 were formally introduced Tuesday.

Caitlin Chatterton, the valedictorian, is the daughter of Charlie and Carol Chatterton. She will attend Haverford College in the fall and plans to major in political science with a possible concentration in peace, justice and human rights.

During her time at Rockville, she was a three-sport athlete, playing soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. This past season, she was a tri-captain of the girls lacrosse team.

She is also the senior class president and her extracurricular activities include the National Honor Society, Student Athlete Leadership Team, the RHS yearbook, the RHS Student Council, and the peer advocate program. She has also been a four-year member of the Rockville "As Schools Match Wits" Team.

Chatterton also has been an active member of the RHS Creative Writing program for the past four years and is currently the Youth Poet Laureate of Vernon. She has won a National Silver Medal for Poetry and has won multiple regional awards in Scholastic Art and Writing, and has had her poetry and short stories published four times. Outside of Rockville, Caitlin has been involved with her church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta, as a peer minister for the past two years and as a member of the youth ministry the past four.

She is also a youth soccer referee, and has volunteered for local sports teams.

Isabel Cintron, the salutatorian, is the daughter of Ruben and Melissa Cintron. She will attend

Eastern Connecticut State University in the fall as a University Honors Scholar. She plans to double
major in early childhood education and psychology as she aspires to be a preschool teacher in
the future.

Cintron has served as a leader in her school community as a member of the peer advocate program, the Student Athlete Leadership Team and the National Honor Society. She has also volunteered weekly as a Sunday School teacher at Grace Bible Baptist Church in the preschool classroom for the past two years.

Cintron is also a well-rounded athlete as has competed with the RHS cross country, indoor track and outdoor track teams throughout her four years. She has earned several awards for her athletic and academic achievements, six all-conference selection and all-state status in cross country athlete. She has also won multiple coaches awards, a most valuable player award, and the 2023 CIAC Scholar Athlete.

Her academic success has also earned her the Yale Club and Scholarship Foundation of Hartford Book Award and the Rensselaer Award. Cintron is also a Rockville High School Humanities Scholar through her participation in the RHS Creative Writing Program for four years, as well as being one of the editors of the RHS Rampage.
