Rockville High School Senior Diary: Trends That Need to Stop in 2017
A lot went wrong in 2016 and a lot of wonderfully things happened, but there are a few ttends we should leave behind in 2016.

A lot went wrong in 2016. I don’t mean the election or Brexit, both of which split Britain and the United States.
I am referring more towards the war in Syria, the Zika virus, terror attacks all over the world, and if that wasn’t bad enough, Princess Leia died.
But there were also wonderful things that came out of 2016 that we can look back at and appreciate like the Cubs ending curses, finding out that the ozone is repairing itself, and Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar!

But there are still just a few things that should stay in 2016 and we should forget about completely.
Ju Ju On That Beat Challenge

For those who are unfamiliar with this somewhat recent challenge circling the internet, it is a dance that all started with some clowns, literally. This was fun to watch and try out for yourself at first, but we get it, you can dance.
Mannequin Challenge
This challenge has only been going around for a few weeks, and we are already sick of it. The first week was funny, and even the second week when it made its way to Rockville High School, it was kind of amusing to watch, but after that, it’s time to literally move on.
Eyebrows

Somewhere in 2016, eyebrows became the most important feature on not only women, but men as well. This is a universal beauty standard that needs to be knocked down a few pegs. Some have compared them to Nike symbols drawn on faces, but I like to think of them as a handful of sh** smeared on someone's face.
Kylie Jenner Lips

Ever since Kylie Jenner showcased her enormous lips on social media, people have tried to imitate her huge lips. I have seen them and all I want to ask is if that person got their butt kicked and need me to call the authorities. They look like they got a fat lip that just won’t heal. Unless you are 2009 Kylie Jenner and have pencil thin lips, you do not need lip injections.
The Kardashians in General
It is not just Kylie Jenner who is creating a problem for the world, but the whole Kardashian family is driving us nuts. Kanye put on a fashion show with models that looked like they had been tortured, and the clothes looked no better. Rob thought it would be a good idea to deal with his anxiety and depression by getting, now ex-fiance, Blac Chyna pregnant and then starting a show about it. The only good thing to come out of the family this year was Kim getting robbed. Not that robbery is justifiable, but she did go on a social media break. And a much needed one at that for us. After all of her plastic outfits and sheer tops, it was nice not to see, well, all of her for a few weeks.
Memes
Some might say that memes are what got us through 2016, but I say that they are the most useless source of humor. We are currently scraping the bottom of the bucket trying to find some humor in our apparently boring and depressing lives. Maybe if we get out from behind our keyboards and experience what the world has to offer, maybe we might find that there are more exciting things than memes.
Harambe
Along with all of these other trends; Let. Harambe. Die.
It has been months since this poor creature has died and the fact that people want to whip stuff out for him, I personally find that very disrespectful. It is time to let him rest in gorilla heaven.
Over the year, 2016 brought its worst at times, but so far, 2017 is looking to be a bright year, hopefully one where we focus less on our physical appearance, love each other, and experience life for what it has to offer us. We should focus on making our lives healthier, learn to support each other through the rough times instead of being selfish with what we have that others do not. And not just during the holiday season, but throughout the year. Maybe then, 2017 will most definitely be the greatest year of all.
