Rockville High School's Silver Signs National Letter of Intent

The RHS softball standout is happy to have chosen a college.

VERNON, CT — Rockville High School senior softball standout Sarah Silver on Thursday signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Bridgeport.

Wearing a UB shirt and surrounded by friends, coaches, administrators, teammates and family members, Silver signed the letter at RHS. She even had a purple water bottle.

"That I just happened to have," she said of the bottle while expressing her excitement to be a Purple Knight next year.

Silver said she went to a UB fall game at Central Connecticut State University and was convinced Bridgeport was a good fit. She said the academic and city-based setting in Bridgeport felt like a place she could call home.

"They also like to recruit athletes there and I liked that," Silver said.

That means she would like to play on the left side of the infield but would relish the chance to try any position at the NCAA level.

Former RHS standout Kaitlyn Lajoie is a senior pitcher at UB. Silver said the school also has a high 3.3 grade point average standard for the softball program, a perfect fit for her 3.8 high school GPA.

She also liked the fact that "the pressure was now off" when it came to choosing a college.

"I can now enjoy my senior year," she said. "I do not have to worry about applications. I am looking forward to going to Bridgeport for academics and playing softball."
