Rockville HS Pitching Standout Latest Announced Hall Member

A 4-time all-conference softball pitcher has made it to the Rockville High School Hall of Fame.

VERNON – A four-time all-conference softball pitcher who led the program to four straight conference championships, Lauren Person (Class of 2004) is the sixth announced 2019 inductee into the Rockville High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

The seventh-annual induction ceremony is slated for Sunday, Sept. 15 at the high school.

The Vernon native joins Jeff Johnson (1984), Sean Trask (1992), Amy Schrag (1987), Julie Blowers Bertsch (2003) and Pat Brand (1975) as announced inductees among the eight-person Class of 2019.

In a career spanning the 2001-2004 seasons, the right-hander won 63 of the Rams’ 67 games and pitched the team to a 50-2 record in the CCC East, 67-19 overall. She was twice named to the All-Hartford Courant All-State Team and as a senior was selected to the CHSCA Class L All-State Team and to CHSCA Senior All-Star Game.

With Person, the Rockville softball team averaged nearly 17 wins per year. She pitched the Rams to two undefeated seasons in the CCC East and two within a loss in the final conference game in 2004 of a third undefeated season. Behind Person, RHS qualified four times for the CIAC tournament – the first three seasons in Class LL and the final one in Class L. RHS played seven CIAC tournament games in four seasons behind Person, twice being seeded fifth and twice being seeded sixth in the state tournament.

After flirting with no-hitters numerous times (and averaging upwards of 10 strikeouts per game) in her career, Person saved her perfect game for a large Seniors’ Night crowd in 2004, when she fanned a career-high 18 batters and also contributed a triple in a 5-0 win over Fermi. Despite pitching (and winning) four games in the previous four days, Person fanned eight of the first nine Fermi batters that she faced in that game.

Among her numerous accomplishments and awards, the two-time team captain and honor roll student was presented with the Raymond E. Ramsdell Award "for demonstrating outstanding athletic performance" as a senior.

Following a four-year career at RHS as the No. 1 pitcher, Person attained the identical distinction at Division III Nichols College, where she currently ranks first or second all-time in most every career pitching category, including wins, strikeouts, innings and shutouts.

Person holds a B.S. Degree in Sport Management. In addition to sending numerous pitcher on to play at all three levels of college as an individual pitching instructor, Person serves as a professional softball instructor/operations manager for USA Elite Training, LLC.

Lauren and husband Brian reside in Manchester with infant daughter Kinsley.
