Sample Ballot Released For Vernon Council Runoff

VERNON, CT — The sample ballot for the Nov. 28 Vernon Town Council runoff has been released.

Democrat Bill Dauphin will occupy Slot 1A.

Republican incumbent Bill Campbell will occupy Slot 1B.

They are the only two on the ballot in the special election after a recount produced a tie vote at 2,693 between them for the 12th and final council seat. The recount added six votes to Dauphin's total and added four to Campbell's, wiping out Campbell's original two-vote win.

If Campbell wins, the Republicans would maintain their longtime majority, this time 7-5. If Dauphin wins, the council would have six Democrats and six Republicans. Republican Mayor Dan Champagne chairs the council.

Polls for the special election are slated for 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town's regular voting locations — Northeast School, Rockville High School, Vernon Center Middle School and Skinner Road School.

School will not be in session that day, officials said.

Because it is a special election, no same-day voter registration will be available. Anyone interested in voting must register by Nov. 20, officials said.

Absentee ballots for the special election are available at the Vernon Town Clerk's Office, 14 Park Place.

Voters can call the Town Clerk's Office at 860-870-3662 to request an absentee ballot application.

Voters may also go in-person to the Town Clerk’s Office to fill out an absentee ballot application and complete an actual absentee ballot. Only the Town Clerk may issue and process absentee ballot requests.
