Scooter Driver Airlifted To Hospital After Crash On Vernon Rail Trail

A scooter crashed on the Vernon Rails-to-Trails system Thursday.

VERNON, CT — A scooter driver who was on the Vernon Rails to Trails system crashed his vehicle Thursday afternoon and was airlifted to an area hospital, police said.

Vernon police said the driver suffered a serious head injury.

The crash took place at about 4:45 p.m. on the trail near Tallwood Drive, police said.

The scooter driver was unresponsive when help arrived and it appeared the driver was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.

Life Star helicopter was met on Birch Street by a Vernon ambulance carrying the driver.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, police said. The gender and age of the scooter driver was not disclosed at the scene.

Police said they did not know what prompted the driver to bring the scooter on the trail. Motorized vehicles are prohibited on the trail system.
