Season Extended for Rockville Farmers' Market

Fire starters made from manure and hay have been popular items.

The popularity of the weekly farmers' market, sponsored by the Rockville Downtown Association and located at Courthouse Plaza on West Main Street, has prompted the RDA to add a month to the selling season.

The farmers market will continue every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through September 27, instead of the original ending date of Aug. 30, RDA President Lisa Moody said on Wednesday.

"The farmers market has been very well received. People from all over town are visting the market weekly to buy fresh produce, meat, flowers, dairy and more," Moody said. "The number of shoppers is increasing, as are the number of vendors, she said while adding that vendors selling fresh cut flowers, fire starters made from manure and hay and organic vegetables and fresh pork products have been added in recent weeks.

The vendors have promised new and different produce in the coming weeks as more fruit and vegetables hit the peak of season.

"With  school starting it's a perfect time to buy local, buy fresh and pack healthful, delicious lunches for your favorite students," Moody said.   "Help us build on the success of our market by shopping with us on Thursday's throughout September."
